Developing Your Brand

Having a solid ‘brand identity’ will help you stand out from your competition and allow you to grow your business more effectively. A strong brand will allow you to create a recognizable image and provide a jump point in creating an effective marketing campaign. When you create a brand that is truly authentic, it will attract potential patients that resonate with who you are, what you do, and why they should choose you!

Your brand can help you create highly effective marketing tools. It will introduce you to the people that are searching for what you have to offer and eliminate ambiguities in their choices. It will allow you to stand out as the obvious choice in a sea of competition.

How do you build your brand?


First, it is critical for you to be truly authentic in this process. As humans, we attract the right people in our personal lives when we are being our true selves. Ideally, you want to portray yourself in the same way to your potential patients.

Here is a simple exercise to start developing your identity. Take out some paper or some post it notes and answer these questions-honestly:

•  Why did you choose to become a dentist?
•  What do you enjoy doing most?
•  When you look at your daily schedule, what services or people make you smile? Which ones make you frown?
•  What is your purpose (besides earning revenue) for going to work every day?
•  What type of things do you enjoy in your personal life that cross over into your professional life?
•  What types of continuing education do you find most drawn?

Now, that you have an idea of your personal identity, how does this translate into how others see their experience with your office? Here are a few more questions you can ask yourself and your team to further develop the brand.

•  What makes your team special?
•  What have you done in your business to create a great experience?
•  What do patients tell you they love about coming to your practice?

One way you can answer these questions is to read your patient reviews and/or surveys. Chances are the reasons why your existing patients love you will be what others need to hear about you. Use their words to amplify your voice.
