While it’s cliche to say that content is king, the truth is that almost nothing can do more for your dental SEO ranking than having quality content for Google to recognize and rank well. But what does optimizing content for SEO (search engine optimization) really mean?
As we know, Google’s search algorithm relies on keywords. Keywords are the words and sometimes phrases that web searchers use when they’re looking for information online. These same words and phrases are used to describe the topics located on your dental website. In an ideal case, these terms match up. That’s why it’s important to use these keywords in your content.
SEO is more than just the main keyword that you want to rank for. You should also include terms in your writing that are related to the topics that people are searching for. Known as latent semantic indexing keywords or LSI, they help Google to know which search results to show to your user. Using the correct LSI keywords lets Google know that when searchers type in “bridges”, your page refers to the dental restoration and not the structure.
One thing to keep in mind though is that while Google rewards good content, it punishes bad content such as keyword stuffing. Keyword stuffing is the unacceptable act of placing all or as much of your targeted keywords into a single piece of content in an attempt to fool Google into ranking your page well for that topic. Keyword stuffing is a practice that used to be allowed by Google, but as this led to abuse that made content unreadable, was ultimately banned by the search engine.
Content optimization also includes the ability to understand search intent. That means recognizing what users are actually looking for when they look for specific search terms. In general, people’s search terms will change depending on what they want to do.
•
Look for the answer to a question (informational)
•
Locate a specific website (navigational)
•
Research before making a purchase (investigational)
•
Complete a purchase (transactional)
The best optimized sites will feature primed content for all of these search types.
The easiest and most effective way in which to determine whether your content is set to have eyes on it is to do a little searching yourself. Set your browser of choice to private mode and enter your keyword. Take a note of the kind of content that is ranking well, and determine whether your work would do the same. If it is, then great! Pat yourself on the back and use this as a chance to see why that is. If it isn’t, then you may need to begin your keyword research anew and find out what works.
Keep in mind that keywords alone won’t get you ranked up to the top of search results. It takes a coordinated effort of certain SEO techniques such as links and technical SEO that all work together as part of your dental marketing plan to get your website seen.
