The social media landscape is once again changing when it comes to Facebook and a user's newsfeed. Up until this point, if someone "liked" a post, Facebook assumed that person would like stories or ads of the same nature. So if someone liked a business post about make up tips, they'd likely be good targets for an ad from a beauty supply store. In 2014 Facebook asked a group of people to rate Facebook posts going forward. They were asked to rate whether or not they were interested in a post from 1 to 5. The data has since revealed that people often want to see posts that they might not necessarily "like". For instance, if a friend has a death in their family, they might not to "like" the post, but they want to see it and interact with it. This means the data from "likes" is skewed and thus the algorithm for displaying information in the newsfeed is skewed. Today, Facebook launched new emotions that allow increased interactions with posts. The modifications don't get rid of the like option but instead add to it. Facebook's new emotions allow users to choose to show how they interact with the post; whether they are sad about the information shared, they love it, react by being "wowed", or if they are angry or feel like laughing. This change will potentially impact your dental office postings. Imagine if you post and your followers have an opportunity to express more of an opinion or feeling on your post. Knowing this, you have an opportunity to tailor your postings directly to the things your followers would interact with. In addition, it's rumored that Facebook might allow for more targeted business advertising based on a user's interaction with a post. That could mean great things for your practice and targeting the right kind of patients to your clinic. As these new reactions just launched today, we're sure they will continue to evolve and change in the coming weeks. We'll be sure to keep on top of these changes and make recommendations here as to how this tool might change the way you post. (888) 246-6906 info@weomedia.com |
